Due to explosive growth, Lion Forge has a newly created position, Accounting Clerk, who will assist with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and general accounting functions. The Accounting Clerk will report to the Staff Accountant and will work collaboratively to ensure the Finance Department runs smoothly.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Review all invoices for appropriate documentation and enter into QuickBooks & CashPro system for approval and payment processing
  • Process P.O.’s matching invoices
  • Prioritize invoices according to cash discount potential and payment terms
  • Reconcile vendor statements, research and correct discrepancies
  • Respond to all vendor inquiries regarding payment status
  • Process employee expense reports using Expensify
  • Audit, process and reconcile credit card statements matching receipts for verification
  • Maintain the detail related to the prepaid expense account
  • Maintain appropriate vendor W-9 forms ensuring forms are on file and current
  • Process Annual 1099’s
  • Research and Resolve Customer Correspondence and Invoice/Payment Issues
  • Process Daily Invoices, Payments, and Adjustments, including Mailing
  • Prepare Accounts Receivable Reports and Statements as needed

Lion Forge seeks a strategic, organized, detail minded Accounting Manager to help shape its operations and accounting capacity by developing and implementing best practices and processes that meet Lion Forge’s needs and to coordinate a team dedicated to its mission.

The Accounting Manager will play a pivotal role in the accounting department reporting directly to the CFO and will supervise the accounts payable and receivable functions.

The Accounting Manager will analyze financial information and prepare financial reports to determine or maintain record of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, and tax liability.

Essential Functions 

  • Prepare all journal entries and generate accurate month end financial statements in a timely manner
  • Review and analyze monthly financials for significant fluctuations between budget, forecast and actual results. Prepare a written report of causal factors noted
  • Prepare and post journal entries for month-end closing
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations for management review
  • Prepare various schedules related to the year-end audit, quarterly reviews and required reporting
  • Monitors and prepares cash flow analysis and reporting
  • Support monthly close process
  • Process payroll for hourly and salary staff using IPS
  • Ensure timesheets are accurate and ready for processing
  • Enter all payroll related data changes ensuring accuracy
  • Generate payroll financial reports
  • Oversee and ensure accuracy of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable & Royalties.
  • Oversee various software implementations for Meta Comet (royalty tracking software) and Sales Force
  • Assist with the preparation of weekly, monthly and annual Budgets & Forecasting
  • Maintain general ledger chart of accounts
  • Maintain detailed fixed asset records
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Create forms and manuals for accounting personnel.
  • Responsible for creating and assisting with the development of fiscal policies and Projects and Process Improvement Initiatives
  • Maintains all confidential information in accordance with all company policies and procedures. Confidential information includes but is not limited to customer information, credit card information, team member information and proprietary company information.
  • Maintain proper organization and documentation of all accounting and payroll documentation
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications 

  • Thorough knowledge of general accounting including the application of general accounting theory
  • Must be proficient in Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Duties require broad conceptual judgment, initiative and ability to deal with complex accounting issues.

  • Administer full recruitment cycle including sourcing, screening, interviewing, conducting reference and background checks, securing final approval for offers and extending verbal offers of employment for organization.
  • Maintain and update Applicant Tracking Software to best utilize capabilities and reporting tools.
  • Develop and maintain an effective onboarding program for new employees.

  • Assist with providing management and employee counseling. Participate and assist with coaching and counseling of employees and management which may include, but is not limited to, performance discussions, career guidance, and other HR related areas. Lion Forge seeks a Social Media and Community Manager who is a strong collaborator with exceptional communication skills and a passion for delivering engaging, on-brand assets and social content. The position requires a creative thinker, successful copywriter, and social media expert interested in current and developing trends in social media, digital marketing, publishing, pop culture, and entertainment.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Manage and build social communities (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, YouTube, Vine, blogs, etc.) for Lion Forge and all related imprints, as well as related business efforts;
  • Create and maintain a presence on Good Reads and other social community pop culture, publishing, entertainment, and graphic novel platforms;
  • Develop, curate, and execute on-brand, engaging, integrated, and creative content across all social platforms, with a focus on building engagement that includes:
    • executing a comprehensive social media editorial calendar encompassing organic, scheduled, and curated content;
    • writing and managing daily posts across platforms and acting as community manager;
    • developing and engaging influencer relationships;
    • covering trade shows and live events involving Lion Forge, including travel and related trade show support
  • Collaborate with other Lion Forge employees to coordinate social media efforts with marketing and editorial goals while keeping business goals at the forefront of strategy;
  • Track and report relevant social metrics, including reach, clicks, engagement, revenue and content performance;
  • Audit competitive and industry data, and monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design, and strategy;
  • Analyze, review, and report on social media performance;

  • Maintain an understanding of competitive brands in the publishing industry, as well as the overall comics, graphic novel, pop culture, children and teen publishing, and entertainment markets;
  • Identify the latest trends in social media and digital marketing;
  • Develop and communicate social media best practices to the marketing team and relevant Lion Forge staff; and
  • Establish and maintain outreach program with independent creators, talent, and other business relationships who have worked with Lion Forge, including delivering comp copies and gifts, to leverage those relationships and their social media networks.

Qualifications include:

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent work experience in roles exercising transferrable skills;
  • Three years’ experience in social media planning and execution, preferred;
  • Three years’ design and social back-end development experience preferred;
  • Proven knowledge of all social media platforms;
  • Proficient in social media and digital analytics;
  • Willingness to learn new programs and be flexible within a growing company and changing marketplace;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write clear, creative, and engaging copy;

Lion Forge seeks an analytical and detail-oriented Publishing Operations Assistant who is driven to solve problems and complete puzzles that will tie together inter-departmental efforts into the company’s title management and rights management databases. The position is located in St. Louis and reports to the Managing Editor.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Assist with collection and maintenance of publishing metadata for all books and other publications;
  • Validate metadata with distributors and internal and external stakeholders by ensuring that all data is accurate and current within the correct database;
  • Assist stakeholders with accessing high quality data on a timely basis;
  • Assist with developing and documenting best metadata practices to meet all business needs;
  • Assist Accounting and Finance Department associate payment data with title and rights data within databases and spreadsheets needed to generate royalty statements;
  • Provide rights management support;
  • Develop expertise with Firebrand Title Management System and the company’s various integrated systems and provide user support to internal stakeholders;
  • Assist with user management for company’s databases.

Qualifications include:

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent work experience in roles exercising transferrable skills;
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with data and complex databases.
